{"id":3004,"date":"2012-03-13T02:55:14","date_gmt":"2012-03-13T06:55:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mohonkimages.com\/journal\/2012\/03\/irreducible\/"},"modified":"2012-03-13T02:55:14","modified_gmt":"2012-03-13T06:55:14","slug":"irreducible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mohonkimages.com\/journal\/2012\/03\/irreducible\/","title":{"rendered":"Irreducible"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I enjoyed reading the sentiments expressed in Peter Schjeldahl&#39;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/arts\/critics\/artworld\/2012\/03\/05\/120305craw_artworld_schjeldahl\" target=\"_self\">review<\/a> of the Cindy Sherman retrospective at MOMA.&#0160; For those not familiar with Sherman, for the past 30 years she has created photographic self-portraits dressed as someone else, for example, Queen Elizabeth or Marilyn Monroe.<\/p>\n<p><em>The intellectual vogue is long over, though the pedantry lingers, presuming that the mysteries of Sherman&#39;s art \u2013 photographs that are like one-frame movies, which she directs and acts in \u2013 demand special explanation.
