{"id":2885,"date":"2014-11-05T09:07:39","date_gmt":"2014-11-05T14:07:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mohonkimages.com\/journal\/2014\/11\/receptivity\/"},"modified":"2014-11-05T09:07:39","modified_gmt":"2014-11-05T14:07:39","slug":"receptivity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mohonkimages.com\/journal\/2014\/11\/receptivity\/","title":{"rendered":"Receptivity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In chatting with visitors to the gallery I&#39;ve learned most assume landscape photography requires patience &#8212; waiting for the right light.&#0160; That may be true for some photographers but is not the style I&#39;ve found most successful.&#0160;<\/p>\n<p>I&#39;ve had more luck approaching the challenge with a spirit of discovery and an open mind, not unlike many of the artists I&#39;ve written about in earlier posts: Maira Kalman, Alex Webb, Steve McCurry&#8230;etc.<\/p>\n<p>Though the following excerpt from an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brainpickings.org\/2013\/08\/27\/oscar-wilde-on-art\/\" target=\"_self\">essay<\/a> by Oscar Wilde refers to the viewer of art, it seems to me equally important that the artist cultivate a similar mindset during the creative process:<\/p>\n<p><em>The temperament to which Art appeals \u2026 is the temperament of receptivity.
