{"id":2855,"date":"2015-09-28T08:28:50","date_gmt":"2015-09-28T12:28:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mohonkimages.com\/journal\/2015\/09\/thats-what-art-is\/"},"modified":"2015-09-28T08:28:50","modified_gmt":"2015-09-28T12:28:50","slug":"thats-what-art-is","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mohonkimages.com\/journal\/2015\/09\/thats-what-art-is\/","title":{"rendered":"That&#8217;s What Art Is&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just heard an incredible interview with actor and author Wendell Pierce about returning home to New Orleans after Katrina in order to rebuild his ruined neighborhood.&#0160; He&#39;d just finished acting in the Beckett play, Waiting For Godot, about:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2026 two characters searching for something to save them, define them\u2014 where have they been, where are they going <em>\u2014<\/em> and in that play there\u2019s a moment where one of the characters says, \u201dAt this place and in this moment in time, all mankind is us&#8230; let us do something while we have the chance.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And that was an epiphany for me and an awakening.&#0160; I realized that\u2019s what art is&#0160;<em>\u2014<\/em> a form where we reflect on who we are, where we\u2019ve been, where we hope to go\u2026 declare our values and then act on them.
