{"id":2639,"date":"2022-11-16T18:02:32","date_gmt":"2022-11-16T23:02:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mohonkimages.com\/journal\/2022\/11\/like-a-child\/"},"modified":"2022-11-16T18:02:32","modified_gmt":"2022-11-16T23:02:32","slug":"like-a-child","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mohonkimages.com\/journal\/2022\/11\/like-a-child\/","title":{"rendered":"Like a Child"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An ongoing theme of this blog has been examining the disconnect between our pre-cognitive response to the world we live in vs. our intellectual response.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve come down on the side of the pre-cognitive, i.e., the art \u2013 poetry, music, prose\u2026etc. \u2013 that gives one goose bumps even though it&#39;s difficult to explain why, exactly.<\/p>\n<p>That sentiment describes much of what we&#39;ve experienced in our visual explorations of the local landscape \u2013 not so much a photographic recording of reality as it is a response to the discovery of \u201cbeauty\u201d (whatever that is) in unlikely places.<\/p>\n<p>This observation by painter Pablo Picasso neatly sums it up:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em>It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#0160;<\/p>\n<div class=\"tpad-img-center\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mohonkimages.com\/journal\/6a01156f6c1fc1970b02af14849c6e200c-800wi\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"P-0425\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a01156f6c1fc1970b02af14849c6e200c img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mohonkimages.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/6a01156f6c1fc1970b02af14849c6e200c-500wi.jpg\" title=\"P-0425\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An ongoing theme of this blog has been examining the disconnect between our pre-cognitive response to the world we live in vs. our intellectual response.
